Our ancestors, thinkers and philosophers believed that the main aim of life is not just the worldly success, but  the achievement of spiritual knowledge and realization of the supreme power.To achieve knowledge,  every human has to go through various samskaras, right from the birth till death. These samskaras bind the human life to follow a system that keeps them mostly away from unproductive pleasures and temporary ecstasy.All the 16 samskaras are conducted at different stages of life. Each and every samskara has its own importance. If done with rituals and purity of mind it brings a lot of positive changes in life. And one of them is  Garbhadhana-samskara.This is the first sacrament which is followed immediately on every matrimonial union.

Garbhadhana-samskara is a wonderful creation:

It is to be concluded that while conceiving a child one's mind must be very sober and devotional.For this purpose the Garbhadhana-samskara is recommended in the Vedic scriptures. If the mind of the father is not sober, the semen discharged will not be very good.Before begetting a child, one has to sanctify his perplexed mind.We may sometimes be absorbed in some thought which is sinful, but if we give up the sinful thought, it may be said that we give up the body. It follows that any father and mother should also be careful while begetting(conceive) children. The mental condition of a child depends upon the mental status of his parents at the time he is conceived. According to the Vedic system, therefore, the garbhadhana-samskara, or the ceremony for giving birth to a child, is observed.The mental state of the father and mother before sex will certainly affect the mentality of the child to be begotten.

As states in Sastras parents should understand garbhadhana purificatory process before begetting children.According to the Vedic system, therefore, before a child is conceived, the garbhadhana-samskara is performed.This samskara ensures that conception, instead of being an accident, should be a pre-planned affair at an auspicious time with religious purity when a husband and wife meet for a definite object of getting good progeny. This samskara is said to do away with all impurities related to conception and reproductive system of female so as to ensure the birth of a lucky and healthy child.

The culture of a human being begins when the father invests his semen in the womb of the mother. According to his status of work, a living entity is placed in a particular father's semen. The birth of a human being is a great science, and therefore reformation of the act of impregnation according to the Vedic ritual called Garbhdhana samskara is very important for generating good population. The living entity takes shelter within the semen of a father, which is injected within the womb of a mother, and with the help of the mother's ovum the living entity grows a particular type of a body.In this regard the secret of success depends on the parents' acceptance of the various purificatory methods known as samskara.This ceremony molds the mentality of the father in such a way that when he plants his seed in the womb of his wife, he will beget a child whose mind will be completely saturated with a devotional attitude.

According to Vedic principles, before creating progeny one must fully control the senses. This control takes place through the Garbhdhana samskara. Even before the child is born, when the mother is pregnant, many recommended ritualistic ceremonies are performed. In Vedic : childbirth or pregnancy is never regarded as a burden; rather, it is a cause for jubilation.

“The old saying is there; you reap what you sow”

Sometimes we have observed children having personal challenges; becoming victims of abuse; abusing others; getting in trouble with various authorities; taking to forms of intoxication or chemical and substance abuse; or other forms of violence; crime against society; and further forms of self destruction, even suicide. So,it’s become more important on a numbers of such occasion we have enquired further into the nature of the child's conception.We can blame who we like instead of taking the responsibility upon ourselves, but the fact still remains that when we point at others, there are three fingers pointing back in our direction.

"In our own lives, we are meant to follow the principles indicated herewith for getting good children. Of course, it is not possible for everyone to get Krishna as his son, but at least one can get very good sons and daughters for the benefit of human society”In Bhagavad-gita it is said that if human beings do not follow the spiritual way of life, there will be an increase of varna-sankara population.

Garbhadana Samkara - The Difference Between Good Progeny and Varna-sankara. In the rite of conception, garbhadhana, physical union is consecrated through prayer,mantra and invocation with the conscious purpose of bringing a high soul into physical birth.

An eagle is known for powerful eyesight, dog for its sense of smelling, the bat has powerful ears, and so on.. similarly, the brain in human  is extra ordinary! Human brain, has tremendous energy  to do anything ! so such a brain needs to be trained, made as such it guides this ‘body’ in a right path! When a child takes birth, it brings along with it two kinds of accomplishments(samskaras)! one which he carries through many births and  the other acquired from parents(heredity). They may be either good ones or bad! Hence, in order to bring the child away from such an environment, from the bad accomplishments through physical and philosophical methods  is  the main aim of our Vedic culture! And this is called ‘samskara’- the sacraments, accomplishments, embellishments. 

The Samskara are a series of Sacraments, Sacrifices and Rituals that serve as rites of passage and mark the various stages of the Human life.For example- It is said: a boy with good Samskara does right and it is supposed that he will not fall in sin like: Lust, Anger and Wine.It may be concluded that Samskara is a word to denote : qualitative quality. The main aim of this sacrament is to create a satprajaa( a good offspring) by warding  off the defects in the bija(semen), cleansing   the womb of the mother(kshetra) at an auspicious time,  through various rituals, mantras(hymns) and ingredients used during the process.

Our ancestors had that capacity to know both past and the future, seen and the unseen without the help of any computers or machines! Just see the temples or any other huge structures built without the help of any crane or anything, explained about every star and the solar system without the help of any telescope, which we are not able to find even today. How? Would you able to answer these questions? Let us all learn to see every act of nature with sanctity, as an act of respect and responsibility,as our ancestors used to..instead of seeing it just as a matter of enjoyment!

As we all know, man is also an animal! The only feature which distinguishes him from other animals, is ‘knowledge’!, his extraordinary brain! And without this knowledge will just be equal to an animal! In order to acquire this knowledge, he has to tune himself to the eternal.And these samskaras or the sacraments help him to get tuned and the knowledge starts flowing through, by cleansing his mind and body.

This universe is made up of five elements- earth(soil), fire, water, air and a ether. and each and every organ of the human body is affected by the five elements. for example, eyes by the agni(fire) element, ears by the a ether, tongue by the water element and so on. So what ever changes take place in the five elements in the universe automatically affect the organs in this body related to that element. So, the right samskara done at the right time, in the right way would definitely be an effective and alternative method for Human.

Do you know, how a diamond become a diamond before it was a stone ?First it was cleaned the dirt, and then evened it out by doing away with its ruggedness. Further it was polished , and then the stone started shining. Thus the stone was made suitable for setting into an ornament.Such a process of refining and enriching is called Samskara.‘All impurities inherent in the seed of the male and the womb of the female are removed by Samskaras.’ Refine, Polish, Prepare and Perfect.
