MENTAL STATE OF MOTHER AND FATHER AT THE TIME OF CONCEIVING A BABY

The karmas of the incarnating soul are attracted to the mental state of the man and woman at the time of copulation (which can be seen in the seventh house of the copulation time). The incarnating soul’s mental and physical nature relates to the predominat guna and doshas (vata, pitta, kapha) of the parents at the time of copulation.
The moment of ‘conception’ is called the adhana. Adhana literally means depositing or placing as well as kindling or lighting a fire, in this context it means conception (Sun is karaka).
Charaka says that the child resembles those things which the mother thinks in her mind during conception. So we must instead focus on inner cultivation of ourselves. Everything in our life is just a reflection of our own growth and consciousness- therefore we must clean the dirt from ourselves not from the mirror. Garbhadhana-samskara is the purification process done before two prospective parents decide to conceive. Tradition teaches us that before conceiving we should do various sadhanna and rituals to purify and prepare ourselves. Charaka discusses physical cleansing and tonifying (Garbhadhana-samskara) before conceiving and the food and activities to create a healthy child.
The reproductive material of the mother and father, the nourishment (ahara-ja), and the soul’s past actions (atmakrta) are the four [factors] which all have four elements given to the foetus. The mother and father’s karma creates which of these becomes predominant to cause the looks of the child, along with the nature of the past existence.
The mental aspect is approached through visualization of the desired child and mantra. Charaka engages the spiritual component by recommending ritual (puja) to gain blessings, transform karma, and attract a good natured soul to support the highest potential gene transfer from the parents to the child.
The soul that enters at the time of fertilization plays a crucial role in the physical and mental nature of the child a couple will create. The couple may be healthy, cleansed and toned and with spiritual state of mind.
The Vedic Way of Life commences with a celebration of the creation of a new life right from the stage of conception and continues through all stages of the pregnancy.
Vedic science also helps parents receive pleasing children. There are several ceremonies called samskaras that are scheduled before and after conception to help develop the baby's personality on the physical, psychic and spiritual levels. The Garbhadhana samskara is an elaborate scientific process that helps a couple invite elevated souls to join the family. Vedic scriptures are surprisingly precise about how the husband and wife should perform certain prayers and obligations to purify themselves so that they have healthy children of good character.
It is to be concluded that while conceiving a child one's mind must be very sober and devotional. For this purpose the Garbhadhana-samskara is recommended in the Vedic scriptures.
Before begetting a child, one has to sanctify his perplexed mind. When the parents engage their minds in the lotus feet of the Lord and in such a state the child is born, naturally good devotee children come. when the society is full of such good population, there is no trouble from demoniac mentalities.
The mental state of the father and mother at the time of planning will certainly affect the mentality of the child to be begotten. A child who is begotten out of lust may not turn out as the parents desire.
According to the Vedic system, therefore, before a child is conceived, the garbhadhana-samskara is performed. This ceremony molds the mentality of the father in such a way that when he plants his seed in the womb of his wife, he will beget a child whose mind will be completely saturated with a devotional attitude. So there will be peace and prosperity in the world due to good and sane population only.
This may be accepted as a fact because babies are begotten with different mentalities according to the time of their conception.
Vasudeva and Devaki obtained Krishna as their eternal son. In our own lives, we are meant to follow the principles indicated herewith for getting good children. Of course, it is not possible for everyone to get Krishna as his son, but at least one can get very good sons and daughters for the benefit of human society.
Before having Arjuna as their child Mother Kunti and Pandu observed strict celibacy for full one year and plus they performed devotional service to the Lord Krishna. In this way as a result they begot a very devoted and great personality as their son - Arjuna. Who later glorified all his ancestors.
Pregnancy is a time when the mother-to-be changes the most, both externally and internally. It is a vital period for her to be not only physically healthy, but also happy and mentally fit. The arrival of a special soul into the world celebrates the beginning of a child's life, and furthering of the family dynasty. It is an important and joyous time for the family and the new baby. The child's journey begins from the point of conception and it is therefore important to fulfil samskaras from this time, for the wellbeing of the child as well and the mother.
