AYURVEDA FOR PREGNANCY

Ayurveda For Pregnancy & Women's Health..
I would say, Ayurveda is a life science. Its not just tips for pregnancy, but it has some real advice which can do wonders for Mother and Baby.
Ayurveda appreciates the importance of ‘Suprajanan’ ( The science related with – grooming the process of childbirth well in advance – right from preparation for conception, achieving spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional state of equilibrium of both mother and the foetus till the childbIrth).
Your energy during prior to conception charges the environment when this soul becomes a part of the world—a very auspicious time. Ayurveda tells us that this very moment directly impacts the baby’s prakriti (or its physical, mental, and spiritual personality).
Transformation of a woman into a mother begins right from the time she conceives and so does the planning for the upbringing and development of the baby. Both the mother and the baby gets attached to each other such that every minute act, thoughts, joys, sorrows, emotions, eating habits influences baby’s physical, mental and emotional growth. Further on as time passes by the baby also recognizes and responds to mother’s voice and feelings. The mother can comfort the baby by expressing her love and care through her emotions.
The first three months of pregnancy are very essential and mother should receive all the love and care; as during these days the foetus is unstable inside the womb, it needs time and nourishment to gain the stability. In the second trimester the foetus attains the necessary stability and the focus is mainly on the evenly growth of the baby. In the third trimester the emphasis lays upon adding a golden touch to the child’s physical and mental development through medicines and other activities, taking care of baby’s weight, and also preparing the mother for labor.
In Ayurveda, pregnancy is viewed as a very special and spiritual time in a woman’s life. It is often reported that a pregnant woman’s aura is particularly luminous and golden — this is Ayurveda’s explanation for that intangible “pregnancy glow“that we hear about. This is a time when a woman’s intuitive abilities are particularly high, and meditation and other spiritual practices are highly recommended at this time.
Pregnancy is a time to bond with your child, and self-care is especially important. Many physical and emotional changes are occurring during these NINE months. According to Ayurveda, pregnancy is the time to balance the Vata dosha, which is the energy of air and space, which dominates the nervous system.
Knowing your baby – Making the parents aware about the month-wise normal growth and development of the baby inside the womb, this strengthens the emotional bond.
Here’s Ayurvedic self-care advice to follow during pregnancy :
From the first day of conception the lady should be joyful, wear clean and white garment.
Engage herself in peace giving activities & live in devotion to the gods.
Avoid dreadful sights, painful or agitating sounds and use of dry, stale, dirty food as well as that stored overnight.
Indulgence in anger, fright or other agitating emotions of the mind should be deemed as injurious.
To carry heavy loads, to talk in a loud voice should be refrained from.
The couch and the bed of a pregnant woman should be low, soft, and guarded on all four sides by a number of soft pillows or cushions.
Create a nourishing and calm environment in your home and avoid stimulating and rajas (toxic) environments like loud music and polluted air.
Vedic Meditation - The key to a healthy pregnancy and happy mother and baby. The foetus also absorbs her peaceful and alert attitude. Vedic meditation is recommended.
Listen to Vedic Chants : The vedic sounds also increase Sattva in the pregnant lady.
Incorporate Fats and Oils into Your Diet. We should always incorporate plenty of healthy fats into our diet, but especially during pregnancy. It is vital that a pregnant woman consumes enough fats and oils, not only to help her gain enough weight during pregnancy, but also to help the baby’s brain develop. Fats and oils also balance Vata, which is dominant. Favor raw or grass-fed dairy, if possible. Cooking with ghee (clarified butter) helps promote digestion, which can be irregular during pregnancy, when the Vata dosha is dominant. All Ayurvedic herbs are fat-soluble — this means that their nutrients are more efficiently delivered to the cells and tissues when accompanied by a healthy fat.
A secret Ayurvedic tip to help your baby’s immunity and vitality is to take one spoonful daily of this golden elixir of life each day of pregnancy: add one teaspoon of warm milk with one teaspoon of grass-fed ghee.
Before bed, take a regular dose of warming turmeric milk to build vitality: Melt a little pinch of teaspoon of turmeric powder with 1/2 teaspoon of cardamon powder in one cup of warm milk, on the stove. When the spices have assimilated into the milk, add 1 tsp of raw honey. This will aid digestion, calm the nerves and help with sound sleep.
Eat Sattvic. In Ayurveda, when a food is sattvic it means it is pure and fresh. This means: avoid leftovers. No processed foods. It is advised to buy organic and non-GMO produce. An expectant mother needs to consume pure and easily digestible foods that nourish the dhatus, or tissues of both her and her baby. Also, cooked food is better than raw during pregnancy, as raw foods tend to aggravate digestion.
In Ayurveda, a dietary system has been developed by the ancient masters and sages thousands of years in working with the mind to support an individual that is perfected by the ancient forms of yoga and meditation. The Ayurveda emphasizes the vegetarian or Sattvik diet for healthy living, particularly for keeping our minds clear, happy and at peace. Having studied the emotional disturbances during pregnancy, the recommendation is acceptable to keep the pregnant women in a calm and peaceful condition. Sattvik means not only vegetarian food, but food rich in Prana ‘life-force’ like organic food, avoiding canned and processed food, and foods grown with pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, hormones or anything unnatural. It also means properly prepared fresh foods with love and care, will add to their Sattvik quality.
A sattvic diet is said to increase the qualities of purity and clarity in the mind. Sattvic and grounding foods such as organic dairy, nuts, whole grains, beans, fruit, and fresh cooked vegetables deliver prana, or cosmic life force, to the body. They also help to build ojas, or vitality, for both you and your baby.
Nourish The Body and Mind through Oil Body Treatment. Most importantly, nourish yourself. As traditional medicine teaches us, everything that you taste, see, touch, and feel during pregnancy, the baby experiences too. Give yourself a daily massage with warming and grounding Ayurvedic oils to nourish your mind, body and spirit as well as the baby’s.
In Sanskrit, the word sneha means both “oil” and “love.” This speaks volumes. Abhyanga, Sanskrit for “oil massage,” is a timeless Ayurvedic ritual. Applying oil to the body is grounding and relaxing, and provides stability and warmth. This ritual evaporates stress and fatigue. You are literally giving love to yourself and your baby, while also helping to diminish stretch marks, restore skin’s elasticity, and relieve that pregnant belly itching.
Why should a pregnant lady follow these regimens?
VAGBHATA AND CHARAKA says the pregnant woman who follows above regimens will have a mridu(soft) kukshi(abdomen), kati(hips), parshwa(waist), prista(back), skin and nails. Her bala(physical strength as well as immunity) and complexion will also improve. Vayu will move in downward direction. Her mala(stools), mootra(urine) and jarayu(amniotic membrane) will be expelled out through their respective routes without complications. She will give birth to a icchita(desired), shresta(famous), deerghayau(long life span), and nirogi (healthy) baby easily.
Hence the woman desiring excellent progeny should particularly refrain from unwholesome diet and behavior
